Though we did not have the significant numerological date as last year, our event was upgraded to a weekend retreat at our lovely new mountain house. New friendships, mountain vistas, and summer sangria were enjoyed by all in attendance. The Saturday dinner consisted of bourbon-marinated chicken, swamp cabbage salad, smokey gouda grits, almost-Idella's yeast
rolls, and vanilla ice cream topped with mango sauce. Readings were excerpts from Cross Creek Cookery - specifically Marjorie's musings about grits and Dora the cow. Jean from Tennessee provided an adorable stuffed (plush, not hunted) Flag, as well as party favors for all - little plastic fawns and a black bear.
